What a powerful quote from a quiet peaceable man. Gandhi understood the power of thoughts, words and actions. He was able to influence a nation and people struggling for Independence, to embrace peaceful protests instead of violence. His example and message are timeless... ~You must be the change you wish to see in the world~ Gandhi.
Today we live in a world of social, economical, spiritual and political unrest. Hard times, little money, lost employment, stresses within marriages, partnerships and with children. The oil spill in the Gulf, the death of a region. Domestic violence, sexual promiscuity, unplanned and often unwanted pregnancies on the rise. The spread of sexually transmitted diseases is epidemic. Gangs, drugs, eating disorders and Reality TV have literally reduce our nation to subcultures struggling to survive. God's presence is no longer invited nor welcome in many social, educational, sporting and government activities.
I have often wondered why, in the midst of such ciaos can one person begin a movement towards peaceful resolutions, forgiveness, love, acceptance and compassion which literally influences and changes the lives of those who choose to follow?
I have found this answer to be interesting. Although our history books are filled with accounts of brave, strong and fearless men who left their mark in history, sadly there are few accounts of the inspirational women who changed the course of history. Take Rosa Parks for instance, "the first lady of civil rights". At 42 while living in Montgomery, Alabama she made the decision not to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. Rosa Parks inspired a nation with her courage and influenced the Civil Rights movement. One women... One seat.... She had become the change she wished to see in the world.
As women our talents are vast and our influence is far reaching. Never under estimate the influence you have with those around you. Margaret Mead said, "A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
I know many of you are struggling with very real problems, feelings of despair and depression, financial hardships, family and relationship issues, the feelings of being overwhelmed, lonely and alone.
I want to reach out to each of you, I assure you I am here and listening.
My vision is to create a blog site to share our experiences that make each of us unique. An oasis in the middle of life's storms, a safe place where you can come and seek wisdom, inspiration and support.
As women we can change our world... as a matter of fact our very existence depends on it.
Where do you feel your influence is most felt? What is your passion?
I would love to hear from you!
Live with Intensity and Purpose!
Carla
